ArtCenter Manatee Closes 2022 with Three Unique Exhibits

Including the International Society of Scratchboard Artists

ArtCenter Manatee closes 2022 with three shows that will appeal to a variety of art lovers, from collectors of handcrafted holiday décor to lovers of exquisite scratchboard “paintings.”

On November 30, they welcome the International Society of Scratchboard Artists (ISSA) to the Kellogg Gallery. This prestigious group includes over 110 active artists representing eight countries. Their president, Cathy Sheeter, MSA, who specializes in wildlife and western art, is one of only 16 Master Scratchboard artists in the world. This is nothing like the scratchboard art you did in school.

There will be an opening reception on Thursday, December 1, from 5:00-7:00 pm that is free and open to the public. The ISSA will also hold seminars at the ArtCenter on December 2 and 3 that will be open to members and non-members alike for a nominal fee.

On display in the Reid Hodges Gallery will be 12×12/Off the Wall, an all-media exhibit of work that is no larger than 12”x12”, framed or unframed. In addition to the size, also unique to the exhibit is that the art can be taken when purchased rather than at the end of the exhibit. Wonderful for holiday gift-giving. In 2021, over seventy local artists displayed their work in this juried show.

Rounding out the exhibits will be the Holiday Extravaganza. The Searle Gallery will be aglow with trees, tabletops and walls adorned with lights, handcrafted ornaments and holiday-themed décor made by over fifty local artists. This will be the time to increase your handmade ornament collection.
