Vanilla Glazed Italian Christmas Cookie Recipe

Italian Christmas cookies are a favorite tradition each holiday season for many. Here is a recipe that your family and friends will love. 

Ingredients:

  • 2 Sticks Unsalted Butter softened
  • 2 Cups Granulated Sugar
  • 4 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 2 1/2 Teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 15 Oz Whole Milk Ricotta Cheese
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract

Vanilla Glaze Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Pure Cane Powdered Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Milk
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • Christmas Jimmy’s (some call them sprinkles)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Using a Kitchen Aid or Stand Mixer, beat butter and sugar in a bowl until fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs, ricotta cheese, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, and baking powder slowly until combined.
  5. Slowly add flour mixture to wet ingredients in the Kitchen Aid or Stand Mixer and mix well until combined.
  6. Make round teaspoon sized balls on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for about 10 minutes until they are set. Do not overcook!
  8.  In a small ball whisk the milk, sugar, and vanilla extract until it mixed.
  9. Using a spoon, spoon the glaze over the top of the cookies.
  10. Follow quickly with the Jimmy’s (sprinkles) before the glaze cools so they stick.
  11. Remove and place on a wire rack to cool.
  12. Serve and enjoy!
