At Sulphur Springs Museum
Did you know the Barbie doll’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts? And that she debuted on March 9, 1959, and cost just $3?
The iconic Barbie is just one of the nostalgic items on display in the “Florida Girls & Boys & Their Toys” exhibit at Sulphur Springs Museum and Heritage Center. The exhibit is on display now through January 5th.
Along with Barbie and some of her wardrobe and accessories, the exhibit includes an impressive collection of vintage Happy Meal toys over the years, from the McDonald’s Hamburglar to Disney movie characters. Gamers will enjoy exploring the history of video game consoles and the origins of handheld gaming.
In celebration of the vintage toys exhibit, the museum is also hosting its first Family Board Game Day. Kids and adults alike will enjoy testing their skill and luck at classic board games like Trouble and Connect Four. Winners will take home prizes. When: Saturday, December 17, from 1 to 3 p.m. Admission is free.
“What in the World? How Walt Created Disney World”: Bestselling author and former stand-up comedian and improv actor will amaze audiences with his presentation on the making of Disney World, which involved “not only subterfuge, but also monumental innovations and engineering feats.” Part of the Sunday Speaker series, this event is free and open to the public. When: Sunday, December 4 at 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
Music Under the Stars: Enjoy an evening of live music under the stars at Mann-Wagnon Park. When: Sunday, December 11th. Entertainment and time to be announced; watch the website for details.
