The artist, Zulu Painter (displays his talent in a close-up of his mural-Right), used input from the children who participate in activities at the Rec Center to help create the art. In addition to the Tampa Bay mural, a PGA TOUR professional participating in the Valspar Championship will receive the opportunity to have a mural created. The PGA TOUR pros will have signed paint cans for a wall behind the 18th tee. From those cans, one pro will be chosen randomly to earn the right to select a location in his own hometown or a town of his choosing for a similar mural created by a local artist from that community.

Zulu Painter, aka Carlos Culbertson, is an international multi-media artist who works in traditional mediums as well as body paint, special effects and scenic art. Zulu’s large scale mural work can be seen across the country and contributes to the art revitalization in communities throughout the USA was chosen for this project.

After 2020, everything could use a little brightening, so Valspar created the Back to Bright initiative to empower communities to bring back their bright after a tough year.  They would like citizens of the Tampa Bay area to nominate a spot in their community in need of some brightening up which was the reason for the Valspar Championship and the “Back to Bright” Valspar Community Mural Project.

Locations were submitted.  They were interested in making a brighter future especially after the Covid-19 has affected so many lives.  They suggested to maybe create a mural on a Community center that has been quieter than usual, a School that has been missing its energy, or perhaps a struggling restaurant.  Many local officials including Mayor Frank Hibbard was available to welcome the new mural at the North Greenwood Recreation Center in Clearwater.
