Returns to the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre
Five-time GRAMMY® Award winner and visionary roots-music storyteller, Keb’ Mo’ returns to the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre for two unforgettable nights of blues and soul on Tuesday Feb 7 and Thursday Feb 9 . Keb’ Mo’ stands as one of the most accomplished and respected artists working in contemporary roots music today.
Born and raised in Compton, California, Keb’ got his start working behind the scenes as a guitarist, songwriter, and arranger before breaking out internationally with the release of his 1994 self – titled debut, which earned widespread acclaim for its genre – bending take on old school sounds.
For Keb’ Mo’, last year ended on a high note after receiving his 12th GRAMMY nomination for the critically-acclaimed Good To Be… (Rounder Records). Upon its release, the album debuted atop multiple Billboard Charts, including at #1 on the Blues Album chart and at #11 on the Heatseekers Chart, and received praise from NPR’s Weekend Edition, American Songwriter, Folk Alley and more. Keb’ Mo’ also performed the single “Good To Be (Home Again)” on The Kelly Clarkson Show and sat down with PBS Newshour for a career-spanning interview.
Good To Be… was written between Keb’ Mo’s Nashville home and his childhood home in Compton, which he recently purchased and renovated. Bouncing from Tennessee to California, he was faced with plenty of time to reflect upon what constitutes as a ‘home,’ manifesting thematically in the LP with songs about staying true to yourself, the comfort of home and honoring where you come from. Produced by Keb’ Mo’ alongside country music legend Vince Gill and three-time GRAMMY winner Tom Hambridge (B.B. King, Buddy Guy), Good To Be… features collaborations with Darius Rucker, Kristin Chenoweth and Old Crow Medicine Show. Stream the full album HERE, and download it HERE.
Deeply steeped in the blues scene since the 1970s, Keb’ Mo’s storied career includes 12 GRAMMY nominations, an Americana Lifetime Achievement award, multiple performances at the White House, a GRAMMY-award winning collaboration with Taj Mahal, TajMo, plus countless other collaborations. And in 2023, that list will continue to grow with a slew of East Coast dates leading up to his Stagecoach debut in April.
Over the past two decades, he has cultivated a reputation as a modern master of American roots music through the understated excellence of his live and studio performances. Keb’s newest album, Good To Be, weaves together the sounds of his childhood in Compton with the influences of his adopted hometown of Nashville, drawing on country, soul, and blues to craft a heartwarming tapestry that transcends genre and geography.
