At Bearss Groves in Tampa
Bearss Groves, a family run farmers market in North Tampa, is home to Florida’s largest pumpkin, weighing 969 pounds. The gigantic pumpkin arrived on October 12, 2022, from Michigan, where Bearss Groves purchased it in an auction.
The pumpkin is on display in front of the farmer’s market where visitors come from all over the area to enjoy the fall season with fresh produce and a pumpkin patch. Visitors are encouraged to take photos in front of the pumpkin display, free of charge. Pet’s are also welcome.
A group of children from Steps to Maturity, an Early Learning Coalition of Hillsborough County provider, were the first to experience Florida’s largest pumpkin. The children watched as the 969 pound pumpkin was transported by tractor and placed in front of the farm stand. The children, ages 3 and 4, participated in an immersive sensory activity as they explored the insides of a pumpkin. According to Child Mind Institute, outdoor play and nature builds confidence, promotes creativity and imagination, teaches responsibility, encourages physical activity, and reduces stress and fatigue.
Bearss Groves sells a variety of locally-grown produce and has a large pumpkin patch open through the end of October.
Bearss Groves is open Wednesday – Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is located at 14316 Lake Magdalene Blvd, Tampa, FL 33618
