SHINE Kickoff with Spraycation Day

The 7th Annual SHINE® St. Pete Mural Festival kicks off this fall with a special event, Spraycation Day, held at Bayboro Brewing and sponsored by Sunnyside on Saturday, October 16. The event coincides with the release of “Spraycation,” a strawberry, orange and passionfruit-based ale brewed in support of the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance and its award-winning festival. The mural festival, which runs October 15-24, 2021, is one of the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance’s most popular annual events and will feature a group of national, international and local artists who will create 16 new murals throughout the St. Petersburg area’s art districts.

Spraycation Day runs from 2:00 p.m. to 11 p.m. and offers guests an opportunity to enjoy a variety of art forms including live music, a tattoo art show, vintage cars and motorcycles and other entertainment, as well as a unique chance to watch live mural painting. The name of the new brew and festival kickoff event was inspired by a common term used by artists who travel to explore their painting pursuits, especially those with spray can in hand, so the term “Spraycation” fits to represent both the beachy vacation feel and arty atmosphere of a creative city like St. Petersburg.  

Bayboro Brewing Company launched in March 2020 at the onset of the pandemic unexpectedly. Over time, the brewery has become a very involved, integral part of the community and its cultural scene. “When my wife Kelcy and I decided to bring Bayboro Brewing to life, we sought to create a welcoming space that also provides us with an avenue to give back to our community,” says James Coleman, owner of the St. Pete brewery located at 2390 5th Avenue South. “Spraycation was created as an homage to the vibrant arts scene in St. Petersburg.”

At this year’s Spraycation event, guests will have an opportunity to celebrate art of all kinds, from admiring the beauty of customized hot rods and lowriders, vintage cars and motorcycles to watching the talents of locally celebrated tattoo artists from Treasure Island Tattoo, Classic Tattoos, Foolish Pride Tattoo Co., Urban Ink and Above Alpha. A limited number of walk-up appointments will be available for brave guests interested in their own live tattooing session.

Live Music Planned at Spraycation Kickoff:

The festival kickoff event also features live music by Row Jomah (LEFT), sun dé, The Headtones, and the Josh Nelms Project. While Bayboro Brewing will be spotlighting its new brew inspired by the festival, the brewery will be serving their other award-winning beers, ciders and wines. Spraycation Day is free though $5 donations are encouraged to support the Alliance’s SHINE Mural Festival.  SHINE organizers encourage all attendees to follow Center for Disease Control recommendations to protect against the spread of COVID-19.  While attendees enjoy the art, music and locally crafted brews including Spraycation, they can stop by to watch live mural painting already in progress near the brewery.
