Dunedin Portrait Sketch Group

Dunedin Portrait Sketch Group is a group of artists that come together every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to practice their craft and to share the costs of having a live model.  All media are welcome.  There is no instruction, this is not a “class”.  We do not critique each other’s work unless you specifically request.  Our intention is to provide an inviting and supportive space to improve our skills.   All levels of proficiency are welcome.

June Harben founded Dunedin Portrait group 18 years ago.  After securing the Hale Activity Center for our weekly group, she took care of all the finances and always made sure we had a live model.  Having a live model makes all the difference in the world if you truly want to improve and develop your skills.  We are forever grateful to her for all she has done to create a non-competitive and inspiring place for us to improve our skills.

More on Stirling Art Studios and Gallery:

Sudio at Sterling art studios and gallery. They will be holding the Portrait Sketchers in Dunedin

In 1997, a group of dedicated, local artists pooled their creative resources and started a studio collective.  Calling themselves the Trailway Art Colony, they set up their working studios in a building on Douglas Street, just south of Dunedin’s Main Street business district. However, due to an unfortunate fire a few years later, the colony went through a transformation, changing its location as well as its name to the Imago Group.  Since then, some of the original members have left the group, but new members have also come in, and now the collective is known as Stirling Art Studios & Gallery.  The present location is the entire second floor of the renovated Stirling Commons building at 730 Broadway in the heart of downtown Dunedin.  The collective consists of 10 working studios, headquarters for the Miniature Art Society of Florida, and Penny Lane – The Ultimate Beatles Collection (closed for the Summer 2020).

They invite you to visit the gallery and our studios, open currently Thursday through Sunday 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., and to attend our monthly artist receptions held every 2nd Friday of the month from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, in conjunction with Dunedin’s “Night on the Town.”
