Valspar Champion Week Rolls Out

As most of you know, the 2021 Valspar Championship is already in play in Destination Tampa Bay.  The main tournament will be on April 29 through May 2, 2021 with a field of leading players and exciting new ways for fans to participate in the action. The PGA TOUR, event takes place on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook, a Salamander Golf and Spa Resort. Tampa Bay residents are encouraged to participate in some of the new event festivities. Valspar Championship Update

Valspar Championship Week rolled out on Tuesday with most of the top players in the field registering and the Official Groupings for Thursday’s opening round announced.  Quite a few players, like Bubba Watson (above in feature photo), were out on the course for a practice round.

The feature pairing for Thursday is at 1:11 p.m. off the 1st tee when the top two players in the Official World Golf Ranking – #1 Dustin Johnson and #2 Justin Thomas – will tee off with rising Chilean star Joaquin Niemann.  Right ahead of them at 1 p.m. will be Max Homa, Viktor Hovland and Sungjae Im, all in the OWGR top 50.

In the morning pairings, Phil Mickelson makes his return to the Copperhead at 8:01 of the 10th tee with Patrick Reed, right behind a grouping that includes Paul Casey at he begins his quest for a third straight Valspar title.  Gary Woodland who won on the Copperhead in 2010 is another Valspar champ in the group with Jason Kokrak, a runner-up to Casey in 2019.

Thursday will mark the PGA TOUR debuts of two Monday qualifiers, Michael Visacki and Jordan Hahn. Visacki, from Sarasota, made a long putt in a playoff to earn his spot after a quest that has included more than 30 mini-tour victories.  Asked about his feelings, Visacki told a remote interview call, “(This is the) best feeling in the world. Being able to do it near home.”  He tees off the 1st hole at 9:07 a.m. on Thursday. Visacki find out new (RIGHT)

There were two adjustments to the field on Wednesday with the withdrawal of Sepp Straka and Tyrrell Hatton who were replaced by Nelson Ledesma and Kiradech Aphibarnrat.

The Valspar Championship Pro-Am will be today, Wednesday April 28, 2021.  It is closed to the public.  Tournament play begins Thursday.  Tickets are on sale at ValsparChampionship.com.
