Dirty Dozen Brass Band

The Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre presents Dirty Dozen Brass Band on Friday April 17 at 8 pm.  Celebrating over 40 years since their founding in 1977, New Orleans-based Dirty Dozen brass band has taken the traditional foundation of brass band music and incorporated it into a blend of genres including Bebop Jazz, Funk, R&B and Soul.  And boy do we ever love traditional brass band sound in Destination Tampa Bay™.

The Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre presents Dirty Dozen Brass Band on Friday April 17 at 8 pm.

This unique sound, described by the band as a ‘musical gumbo,’ has allowed the Dirty Dozen to tour across five continents and more than 30 countries, record 12 studio albums and collaborate with a range of artists from Modest Mouse to Widespread Panic to Norah Jones.  Forty-plus years later, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band is a world-famous music machine whose name is synonymous with genre-bending romps and high-octane performances.

The performance will be presented at 50% capacity. In addition to frequent multi-layer sanitization of the venue, new XONAR technology has been installed that uses thermal imaging sensors to detect elevated body temperature.  Appropriate face coverings will be required inside the facility, contact is being minimized and hand sanitizer stations are readily available.  For more information, including social safety guidelines, please visit www.rutheckerdhall.com/facility-safety-protocols.

The Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre, located in downtown Clearwater’s Cleveland Street District, was constructed in 1921 and is one of Florida’s oldest operating theaters. In 2019, industry trade publication Pollstar named the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre the #1 club venue in Tampa, #1 in Florida, #3 in the United States and #3 in the world of club venues with 800 seats or less. The Capitol Theatre is in Destination Tampa Bay ™.

In 2013, the theater underwent a complete $10 million renovation and is the catalyst for downtown development. In 2019, Nancy and David Bilheimer donated $2.5 million to Ruth Eckerd hall as part of the theatre’s ongoing “Expanding the Experience” Capital campaign.  In recognition of the generous donation, the Capitol Theatre’s name was changed to the Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre.

The Dirty Dozen Brass Band is a New Orleans, Louisiana, brass band. The ensemble was established in 1977 by Benny Jones and members of the Tornado Brass Band. The Dirty Dozen revolutionized the New Orleans brass band style by incorporating funk and bebop into the traditional New Orleans jazz style, and since has been a major influence on local music.
