Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show and TikTok Tailgate Party

The NFL will honor 7,500 health care workers with free Super Bowl LV tickets and The Weeknd will perform the Pepsi Super Bowl.  In a tweet, Cyrus announced she will be coming to Tampa as part of NFL’s first TikTok Tailgate on Feb. 7 at our home, Destination Tampa Bay, at the Raymond James Stadium, performing a special show for 7,500 vaccinated health care workers before the big game.

Famous Pop star Miley Cyrus (featured photo above) will be coming to Tampa for Super Bowl LV. She will perform for the TikTok Tailgate will begin at 2:30 p.m. Kickoff for Super Bowl LV featuring the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. the Kansas City Chief is at 6:30 p.m.  The 2021 Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show is slated to begin at 8 p.m.

In a recent press release sent to Destination Tampa Bay, the NFL, Pepsi, and Roc Nation announced that three-time Grammy-winning artist, The Weeknd (above), described as “one of today’s most compelling and significant artists of a generation,” will perform during the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show at Raymond James Stadium.

In less than a decade, The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfae has amassed a global fan base and become a multi-award-winning artist. He was named one of the most influential people of 2020 by Time Magazine and is known for his genre-bending music and redefining storytelling, both sonically and visually.

“The Weeknd has introduced a sound all his own. His soulful uniqueness has defined a new generation of greatness in music and artistry,” said Shawn JAY-Z Carter. “This is an extraordinary moment in time and the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show is going to be an extraordinary experience with an extraordinary performer.”

Country singer Eric Church (LEFT) will join 12 Grammy-nominated R&B singer and songwriter Jazmine Sullivan in performing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” And Grammy-winning singer H.E.R. will perform “America the Beautiful.”

Watching their performances from the stands will be a limited number of 22,000 fans, representing about one third of the capacity of Raymond James Stadium capacity of 65,890.

Among them will be 7,500 vaccinated health care workers who will receive free Super Bowl Tickets and game day experiences to honor their service during the pandemic, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced.

All 32 NFL clubs will select vaccinated health care workers from their communities to attend the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay, although the majority will come from Tampa Bay and Central Florida.

A Time to Honor Local Heath Care Professionals

Rob Higgins, CEO of the Super Bowl LV Host Committee, and Buccaneers legend Rondé Barber also surprised four health care workers at Tampa General Hospital with tickets to the game.

“We’re going to help surprise some very deserving health care heroes who have helped define this journey, getting us through the pandemic,” Higgins said.

The NFL will also recognize health care heroes around the country through a variety of special moments both in the stadium and during the CBS broadcast.

“These dedicated health care workers continue to put their own lives at risk to serve others, and we owe them our ongoing gratitude,” said Goodell. “We hope in a small way that this initiative will inspire our country and recognize these true American heroes. This is also an opportunity to promote the importance of vaccination and appropriate health practices, including wearing masks in public settings.”

Goodell said the number of fans was set after discussions with public health officials, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Florida Department of Health, and area hospitals and health care systems.

They reviewed the NFL’s plan for the number of spectators and coronavirus protocols, and provided feedback to the NFL, Goodell said.

These protocols include mandatory mask-wearing, social-distancing, podded seating, touchless in-stadium experiences at concessions and restrooms, security checkpoints and controlled entries and exits.  Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis applauded the NFL’s plan to keep spectators, players, NFL officials and staff safe.

“Florida is proud to host Super Bowl LV at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa to crown the champion of an unprecedented NFL season,” he said. “On behalf of Floridians and football fans across the nation, I would like to thank the many men and women who worked hard to make this game a reality, especially our frontline health care workers who have worked tirelessly over the past year to keep people safe. I look forward to the positive impact this game will have on the Tampa Bay area, and my family and I can’t wait for the big game.”

“We are grateful for the leadership the NFL has shown in thanking our health care workers and promoting vaccine acceptance around Super Bowl LV,” Rivkees said. “I applaud them for making safety their top priority, and for taking a thoughtful approach to make sure that the Super Bowl will be a safe and meaningful experience for fans and the Tampa Bay community.”

“I cannot think of a greater stage than Super Bowl LV to honor our health care professionals,” said Ken Hagan, Hillsborough County commissioner and a member of the Tampa Bay Sports Authority. “On behalf of Tampa Bay, I thank the NFL for their commitment to recognize our local heroes for their tireless efforts and dedication to help us get through this pandemic.”

“Our local health care workers have worked around the clock to ensure the health and safety of our community and I cannot think of a better way to honor them than with the eyes of the world on our hometown for Super Bowl LV,” Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said. “Our country has endured so much over the last year, and we can’t lose sight of those who worked day in and day out to keep us safe. Thank you to the NFL for helping make this happen.”

Former NFL star and Buccaneers player Derrick Brooks, who is co-chairing the Tampa Bay Super Bowl LV Host Committee with former state Rep. Will Weatherford said it was only fitting to salute the men and women who saved so many lives during the past year while risking their own.

“While this was already shaping up to be the most meaningful Super Bowl in our hometown’s history, the NFL deciding to welcome and honor our local vaccinated healthcare workers to Super Bowl LV takes the importance of the event to an all-new level,” he said. “The unsolicited outpouring of appreciation that we’ve received in support of this initiative from our local health care workers across the community has been truly amazing. These heroes inspire us every day, so we couldn’t be more thankful to the NFL for working to safely create this monumental effort to celebrate them.”

Super Bowl LV, the 55th Super Bowl and the 51st modern-era National Football League championship game, will decide the league champion for the 2020 NFL season. The American Football Conference champion Kansas City Chiefs will play the National Football Conference champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The game is scheduled to be played on February 7, 2021, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. This will be the fifth Super Bowl hosted by the Tampa area and the third held at Raymond James Stadium. It will be the fourth time that the Super Bowl was in the same state in back-to-back years, since Super Bowl LIV took place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The TikTok Tailgate, game and halftime show will be televised nationally on CBS stations.
