B-ART-BIE Doll Fashion Show Marks Re-Opening

Of Safety Harbor Art and Music Center October 1

The B-ART-BIE Doll Fashion Show with the works of 16 artists and 21 different doll fashions will bring a collection of spectacular Barbie Dolls to the Safety Harbor Art and Music center (SHAMc) to celebrate the center’s reopening after having been closed since mid-March as a result of the Covid 19 virus. SHAMc is located at 706 2^nd Street N in Safety Harbor.  

Q. When is a Barbie Doll more than just a Barbie Doll?

A. When she is “dolled up” in such spectacular fashion that she has become a work of art.

The B-ART-BIE Doll Fashion Show will be open starting October 1 and be on display at SHAMc through the entire month of October. The show also is viewable on a video runway fashion show on YouTube above. The video fashion show was set up by the artists and filmed and edited by Michael Montini. Still pictures of the individual dolls with their artist creators’ names and descriptions of the dolls will also be found online at www.safetyharborartandmusiccenter.com/#shamcartreach.

The dolls were outfitted by a collective of local artists who have been making wearable art for the Dunedin Fine Arts Center’s “Wearable Art” fashion show over the last ten years. After the DFAC show was cancelled this year due to Covid 19, the artists decided to get together and create a show of their own for display at the Safety Harbor Art and Music Center (SHAMc).

SHAMc’s Artreach director, Heather Richardson, the artists came up with the idea of making their “wearable” outfits for Barbie dolls!

The Safety Harbor Art and Music center’s regular visiting hours are noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesday through Saturday. The building was once an old home that was saved and made into this beautiful art and music center thanks to nearly half a million votes in a nationwide competition sponsored by Pepsi and lots of private donations of time and money. Noted Safety Harbor artists Todd and Kiaralinda Ramquist were the ones who started the center. It is currently listed as one of the best places to see in Destination Tampa Bay by Trip Adviser.
